Here’s a bewitching b-side from the Canadian vinyl release of Grimes’s Visions, still one of the year’s best.

Claire Boucher releases her transcendent new Grimes album Visions today on 4AD (review pending). To coincide with the release, she has taken over Gorilla vs. Bear for the day and is sharing all kinds of cool shit.

What’s sticking with me the most, however, is this video song from Indiencosi, aka Raph from Braids and Blue Hawaii. Unsurprisingly, “Besnard” offers the same liquid loveliness of her other two projects, but with a more Grouper-esque approach.

Watch/listen above and then check out other Grimes picks (including a new collaboration with Majical Clouds) over at GvB.

Lunch Hour Pops

Here are my picks for the best ways to kill time at your desk during whatever magic hour you get to eat and pretend to be working today…

Who is Bon Iver?

This page almost makes me wish he would change his performing name to Bonnie Bear. It would almost make his music more interesting.

Brooklyn’s Selebrities followed up their underrated 2011 debut with a dark, Italians Do it Better worthy single that you can stream right now over at Gorilla vs. Bear. It comes with a video!

School of Seven Bells remixed by Scissor Sisters? Sure, why not. Something very John Talabot about this version that works.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, 10 Essential “Between the Sheets” Albums. Not sure I’d go with all of these for my personal sexcapades, but a strong case is made for each.

Stream the new Frankie Rose record. And the new Burial EP. And again, GRIMES.

I you missed it last week like I did, here’s a sick new mixtape from Peaking Lights.

And finally, Chairlift and Kool A.D. covered Beyonce.

Enjoy!

My review of Grimes’ new album Visions is emminent (here’s a hint: I kind of like it). In the meantime, get around to listening to it over at NPR where it’s streaming in full and form your own opinions.
Then get it next week when it’s out on 4AD.

Genesis

Grimes has signed to 4AD to release her “post-internet” new album Visions. A brilliant pairing of artist and label if ever there was one. Of course this means we’re getting the album about a month later than originally planned (February 21, now), but Ms. Boucher is softening that blow by unveiling another sparkling new gem from it. Essential listening even without the Peanuts-esque piano line that pushes it over the edge of amazing.

Grimes’ forthcoming album Visions is already being pegged by some as the album to beat for 2012. This live performance of previously blogged single “Oblivion” just makes the wait until its January 31 release even more unbearable.

Beautiful Oblivion

Still one of PTR’s favorite current artists, cosmic pop deity Grimes will release her new album Visions on January 31 through Arbutus. Despite calling this her “genuine debut” over on Pitchfork, this is actually the third full album she will have put out in roughly two years, not including her split with d’Eon a few months back.

Call it whatever you want, but girl’s work ethic is impressive as fuck. So is this first taste of Visions. Listen below…

Washed Out x Grimes

Cosmo-pop ingenue Grimes takes a crack at new Washed Out jam “Eyes Be Closed,” with trippy results. The remix will be featured on the forthcoming Eyes Be Closed 12” with other remixes from Star Slinger and Lovelock. Washed Out’s debut album Within and Without drops July 12 on Sub Pop.

Grimes x Laurel Halo

Two of my favorite artists of the last year join forces as Laurel Halo delivers an awesomely ambient remix of this Grimes rarity.

Fragments of the Future

I know I post a lot (read: everything) about Canadian cosmo-popper Grimes, but so long as she keeps turning out songs as sinisterly seductive as this new unreleased cut, I see no reason not to. If ever there was a song title that was a perfect summary of an artist’s sound as a whole, it would be this one.

Ms. Boucher also just dropped a pretty nifty guest mix for Altered Zones that you can check out below too. And she’s touring with Lykke Li right now. Does this girl never sleep???
