My bad, Molly Nilsson

Like many people, I first became aware of Swedish synth-popper Molly Nilsson via John Maus’s cover/duet of her single “Hey Moon” on last year’s We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves. Despite making it a goal to keep an eye for her output—and acquiring/devouring her 2009 album These Things Take Time—I still managed to to miss her latest release.

Shame on me because History is a haunting, hypnotic gem of an album that would easily chart on my Best of 2011 list were I to write it over. Think of early Hot Chip or Deep Cuts-era Knife as covered by Nico and you’ll start to get the idea. Or just watch/hear a few highlights below.

History is out now on Nilsson’s own Dark Skies Association label.
