Lo Hi

Peaking Lights’ upcoming album Lucifer is already becoming my de facto Summer 2012 soundtrack and it’s only April. Stream the ridiculously rad first single below, featuring adorable guest vocals from the couple’s son, Mikko. Blue Ivy who?

And while I’m on a Peaking Lights kick, here’s their delectably dubbed out take on Nite Jewel single “One Second of Love.” Yes, I know these songs are already out an about at this point, but they’re too damn good for me not to talk about them.

Light + Space

Hear the exquisite closing track from Laurel Halo’s forthcoming full-length debut below. Quarantine drops June 5 in the States via Hyperdub. That cover alone makes me think album of the year contender.

Surprised I missed this last week. Dirty Projectors have unveiled the first single from their new album Swing Lo Magellan, out July 10 via Domino. It’s called “Gun Has No Trigger” and it sounds like Dave Longstreth has been listening to a lot of Gnarls Barkley in the time since Bitte Orca. Hear for yourself.

A little taste of Heaven, the new record from The Walkmen, out June 5 via Fat Possum/Bella Union.

An Interstellar Giveaway

Frankie Rose will be playing the North Star Bar next Thursday, April 5 in support of her shimmering new album Interstellar. Thanks to North Star and my man Josh, I have not one, but TWO pairs of tickets to give away!

I’ll be giving away the first pair through my blog this week. Just email me at popthatrocks@gmail.com with your name and favorite album of 2012 so far by Monday, April 2. I’ll select a winner at random that day.

For the second pair, listen in to my weekly radio show Transmission this Thursday for details.

Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor (sorry couldn’t help myself).

From Julia Holter’s exquisitely enchanting new album Ekstasis, out now on RVNG.

Julia will also be touring the States starting in April. Can’t wait.

Out Now, FINALLY: Chromatics - Kill for Love
Even after all the false starts and delays, totally worth it.
Get it now and hear for yourself.

The follow-up to last year’s still stellar 936. Out this June on Mexican Summer. Stream a mixtape of album snippets and influences below. I’m already psyched.
